Invitation to enter the AAI Awards 2002
18th Annual Awards for Excellence in Architectural Design
Submission
Entrants are invited to communicate their design to the public by drawings, photographs or other graphic representation and to explain the project by the use of appropriate images and text.
Each entry is to comprise 1 or 2 panels mounted on rigid card (but not framed) either A1 or 594mm square.
A descriptive text (1 page, 300 words max.) must accompany each entry. Applicants must declare in this text: the size of the project (in m2), and the stage the project is at (design / planning / under construction / when completed).
Entries are to be anonymous with the official entry form in an envelope attached to the back of one panel. Affix supplied numbered labels to the back of each panel, the front of the text, and to external packaging.
Awards
The Downes Bronze Medal was donated to the AAI by Harry Allberry - a founder member - in 1905-6, to be "awarded to the member who produced the best measured drawings and sketches of any building... erected before 1820". The award was discontinued in the early 1950s. The medal has been reintroduced as the Association's premier award for excellence in architectural design.
There will be a maximum 7 awards. The Downes Medal may be awarded at the discretion of the assessors. Any eligible entry is eligible for the Medal. A number of entries may be selected for Special Mention.
The Results will be publicly announced on the evening of the assessment. Entrants will be notified by post.
Entrants will be responsible for collecting unsuccessful entries from 8 Merrion Square within 30 days of the Assessment. The AAI cannot be held responsible for entries not claimed by that date.
