Books / Irish Architecture Books / Introduction | Irish Architecture Books | International Architecture Books | Publishers | Submit a review The Heart of Dublin Peter Pearson O'Brien A book charting the history of the centre of the city of Dublin, tracing the history of the heart of Dublin, street by street describing the evolution of the city from earliest times through to today.
An excellent publication on the city with many intriguing and unusual illustrations of Dublin from the past. The author displays a love for the city through out and the myriad illustrations from business letterheads and current or old photographs means that even a casual glance is enough to persuade the reader to browse further. The division into sections means that the book is easily read, as the casual reader can dip in and out. It charts the gradual dereliction during the twentieth century and its resurgence during the past twenty years as a new-found prosperity and pride has led to new developments and a restoration of some of the citys architectural heritage. If the book is to be faulted, it is for the quality of some of the photographs from the current day; and some of the older and more unusual illustrations which should have been published in a larger format to enjoy the detail. That said, this book is well worth purchasing by anyone with an interest in the capital city or indeed anyone who wishes to know more. An excellent book on the city! © Copyright 1996-2002 Archéire |
