Affordable Apartment Blocks - Heneghan Peng Architects

This shifting at the corner also allows all units to maintain continuous cross ventilation. In addition each unit has a major private view and one minor view. This results in the possibility of individual units having access to an extension of views, which provides a way of expanding the space of the apartment, a necessity when physical space is limited as in an urban environment.

The shift in the corner and balcony units also maximizes the exterior surface, facilitating maximum light penetration into the interior. This is a similar strategy to that employed by the traditional Georgian windows that are characterized by the white jamb reflecting light into the interior of the room.

The fabrication and staging of the project is critical in realizing the project cost effectively. This is achieved by prefabricating all elements except the core and foundations. Construction time is reduced by seeing the project as an assembly on site rather than constructing on site.
